We're liking this free Hare Rig for Maya; it's a fun rig, available for free download from CGMeetUp, and can be used to create entertaining cartoony animation.

Hare works best in a cartoony, Tex Avery world, and can be combined with other cartoony characters such as the free squirrely rig, or perhaps Keith Osbourne's excellent Mr Buttons rig.

You could also consider downloading a cartoony landscape from Turbosquid, or one of the free landscapes created by Truong for cartoony animation.

IK-FK switch
Hare comes in with his hands set to IK by default. If you want to change this (say, if you are animating a walk cycle), select the rectangular boxes above Hare's hands, and change FXIKSwitch_01 to FK.

Eye Controller Settings
The Eye Direction Control (named "eyes_aimCtrl_0Shape1") works best when you change the Follow slider (in the Channel Box) from Head to World. This way the eyes will still follow the Eye All Control even when you rotate the head, or move the body - which is generally what you want, so that Hare's eyes don't wander zombie-like around the screen when you animate him.

Create a Face Camera
We recommend always creating a Face Camera when you animate characters in Maya. To do this, follow these steps. Creating a camera, name it faceCam, and parent it to the facial controls. Then tear it off (Panels/tear off) so you can return to the faceCam whenever you need it. This will save you a lot of time when animating facial expressions.
